Wednesday
I take off driving up through Utah and Idaho. I'm reminded why I'm glad I don't live in Idaho. There is a gas station called Garden of Eden with a huge indoor garden. I follow the road atlas toward Crystal Mountain only to keep running into roads that are closed for the winter. After almost driving in a a circle I found the only open road and found a place to sleep in my car after 14 hours of driving.
Thursday
I ski in the qualifier for the Crystal Mountain big mountain comp and do pretty well. I stayed at the coldest motel ever that night. The shower lasted about 3 minutes and the door wasn't sealed so it was freezing. I almost brought my sleeping bag in cause I was so cold.
Friday
I ski in the semi's of the comp and did well and qualified for the finals. I got back into town (a 35 minute drive) and realized that I'd left my ski boots in the parking lot at Crystal. I cruised back up there only to find that my boots were gone and everything was closed.
Saturday
I got up to the resort early and frantically ran around for 30 minutes looking for someone that could open the lost and found. Luckily one of the rental shop guys had a key. I skied in the finals and crashed 50 feet from the finish gate but it was a way fun line. After the comp I drove to Astoria, Oregon where I've wanted to go ever since the Ataris album, So Long Astoria. While I was driving I cleaned out all the contacts from my phone that I don't use anymore. Then I got to thinking that I have 600 something minutes a month on my phone and I use about 20 of them so I started calling people. If I'm paying for the minutes I might as well use them. Out of about 20 people that I called 3 answered. 2 were my sisters. I'm so cool.
Sunday
I spent the morning in Astoria and Seaside which were some of the prettiest places I've ever been. In the afternoon I drove up to Seattle and looked around Pike's Market and the University of Washington.
Monday
I picked up my dad from the airport and we went to UW for my admissions interview. After that we drove down through Vancouver and Portland and saw some of my dad's mission. We ended in Salem and had dinner with my cousin, Peter. We went to a Thai restaurant where I got shrimp with peanut sauce which everyone told me was good. WRONG!!! It tasted like peanut butter mixed with a ton of oil, which it probably was.
Tuesday
I interviewed at Willamette and then we drove down to Crater Lake which was really pretty and had tons of snow. After that we drove to Winnemucca Nevada which was the most barren drive I've ever made. We honestly didn't see a single car or light from any building for an hour. I've never seen anything like that. After we checked into our hotel I ran down to McDonalds to grad some dinner and I was about 100 feet from the hotel when the Winnemucca police decided to use the tax payers money and pull me over and give me a speeding ticket.
Wednesday
We finish up the drive back to SLC and I get home in time to ski for an hour to get ready for the Snowbird comp.

hey, your sisters are super cool people so you really should feel cool that we answered our phones multiple times to listen to you breathe in our ears or whistle the national anthem. and by the way, thanks for telling us you decided to do the comp:/
