This past week was the Snowbird Freeskiing Nationals and it was hands down the best comp I've ever seen or participated in. I had my best comp run ever and then got to watch some of my good friends advance through the semi's to the finals. For anyone who doesn't know big mountain freeskiing is one of the most difficult sports there is because it is extremely challenging, both physically and mentally (I've heard guys who have raced professionally say that this is much harder mentally than racing). You have to be smart about your line choice so you can get a high score but also stay within your limits because one little mistake and you can get serious messed up. The girls this weekend skied better than I've ever seen them ski and Jaclyn Passo sent the same air as the men to win the womens division AND the Sick Bird award. Dylan Crossman won the mens by skiing like he was just there to have fun and make it look effortless. It was awesome to watch him come all the way through the qualifiers and win. The favorite to win was Kevin O'meara since he's come close so many times but he ended up taking second. It was so cool to see how excited he was for Dylan. Thats how competitions should be.
